The design of rockery is made by taking into account the architectural concept it belongs in, the color of the surrounding elements and the color of the plant leaves and flowers. The rockery requires a lot of experience in choosing the right materials, the right rock type, and also the right plants to highlight it.
The rockeries are designed after the same well defined principles. Shaping the land requires not only shaping a hill but also shaping other smaller dislevelments: a small excavation in front of the mound and at least a small eminence, like an echo of the first one. The rockeries can be dominantly made of flagstone or can contain bigger rocks, irregularly shaped. It is required though that the size of the rocks should be in harmony with the hill, therefore very big and tall rocks are not indicated in this type of rockery, which is a smaller one, but neither are the very small rocks.
We avoid placing rocks shaped like pyramids, preferring the ones where horizontal dimensions are dominant. For this design too, it is necessary to create the right ambiance, according to the climate, the general micro relief of the field with some level differences, and the vegetation which is specific to the area. This way in lowland areas the herbaceous plants will be dominant, and then some deciduous shrub and some sub-shrubs will be added. It is indicated to add coniferous, especially in hill and mountain areas.
